From ancient times to NASA’s current Artemis missions, humans have been looking up at the sky with wonder.

In collaboration with Hartwick College Departments of Physics, Music and Art, duo members Nicole Brancato (keys) and Evan Jagels (bass) improvised and recorded the featured music and interviews at the Wright Observatory. Astrophotography in the film is by Nicholas Volk.

In this 20 minute film, Duo Extempore explores human curiosity, connection, and our cosmos with improvised music.

it's nice to be on the island

it's nice to be on the island is a concert film by Duo Extempore, exploring the stories of Roosevelt Island in New York City's East River with specially curated improvisation.

To shoot the film, Nicole Brancato and Evan Jagels created a custom mobile stage, performing through the streets of New York City with a piano in tow.
