“Nicole Brancato's Elevator Music is not your typical Muzak backdrop. Inspired by the interactive nature of a "choose your own adventure" book, this intimate, site-specific work invites unknowing participants at random to step inside a lift, and to ride together in a private auditory experience custom-built to that moment. As you ascend and descend through the echoing chamber of sounds, samples, and stories, be prepared for a brief but bold musical encounter that transcends the conventional and probes the nature of reality. And because the Lift Operator controls the buttons and levers to numerous musical destinations, each elevator ride is a personalized journey: no group of riders will have the same experience.”
